Rail is the future
Our society is confronted by huge challenges: The struggle against climate change, the need to improve air purity and reduce noise pollution, and the need to develop sustainable mobility concepts are all global tasks that can only be solved if we pull together.
The rail system is a critical factor in shaping a sustainable future. “Make Rail Easy” communicates our goal of making rail freight a simple and efficient mode of transport. At the same time, we must ensure – for rail in general and for VTG as an employer in particular – that we continue to recruit, develop and cement the loyalty of excellently trained staff who combine outstanding performance with exemplary dedication and a willingness to never stop learning. This is especially vital in the context of increasingly multimodal and digitalized freight transport.
VTG nails its colors to the mast of sustainability and willingly assumes ecological, economic and social responsibility.
Sustainability is in our genes. It is what drives us forward. Here you can find out how we can make the transport transition a success.
In the shape of Agenda 2030 and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations have plotted a roadmap to the future. VTG is expressly committed to these goals, which lay the foundation for our sustainability strategy. Based on a materiality analysis we conducted in 2020, we have prioritized the SDGs from our perspective. We are thus concentrating on those topics where we as a company can make an important contribution. These include good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, innovation and infrastructure, and climate action.
We are not only committed to climate protection as part of our core business, but also want to become a climate-neutral company ourselves by 2040. We describe the path to this goal in our sustainability strategy. Read more about our environmental, social and management goals and what we have already achieved in our Sustainability Report 2021.
In 2021, VTG participated in the international GRESB sustainability ranking for the first time. With 96 out of a possible 100 points, VTG ranked 22nd among the approximately 550 participating companies worldwide in the infrastructure sector, placing it among the top four percent of sustainable investments. VTG's commitment to environmental, social and governance issues was awarded a 5-Star rating, the highest classification.
GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) is a rating system that measures and compares the sustainability performance of companies and funds in the infrastructure and real estate sectors based on seven criteria: management, policy & disclosure, risk and opportunity management, monitoring and environmental management systems, certifications, stakeholder engagement and performance indicators.
