Safety and quality in the spotlight

Sven Engelken, Quality and Environment

“We try to make VTG a little bit better every single day.” Sven allows himself a satisfied grin when he describes his job. In his role as an employee in the central unit Quality, Hazardous Goods, Health, Safety and the Environment at VTG he deals with the topic of optimization on a daily basis. His scope of responsibility involves internal audits, reviewing and inspecting the correct fulfilment of parameters and everything to do with environmental protection in the VTG repair and new build workshops.

QM is not his first position in the Group. In 2002, more than ten years ago, the civil engineer (specialising in constructive engineering) signed up with the tank farm section which then belonged to VTG Lehnkering. “In fitting with my degree, I took care of new builds and rebuilds and handled regulatory management with authorities.” But at some point I recognised that the time for professional re-orientation was upon me. “I still felt connected to VTG even after the separation of the tank farm section. It was therefore not at all difficult for me to change to the VTG New Build Department in 2007.” As a member of the new build team he worked on new build projects and was involved in both administrative tasks such as the conclusion of contracts and in more practical work in the workshop.

After five years working with new builds and maintenance, where he looked after revisions, repairs and various customer requirements, he landed in quality and safety management, where he is very happy to this day. “I have the personal ambition to continuously develop myself on a professional level. VTG has always supported me in this and has offered me many opportunities for growth. In my current position in particular, I really feel that I can actively contribute to the further development of the company.”
