VTG acquires majority stake in Slovakian RU Carbo Rail

- Strengthening of the existing corridor strategy of VTG’s own railway undertaking Retrack

- Expansion of presence in Central and Eastern Europe

- Improvement of offer for customers: all services from a single source

For Europe-wide rail transport corridors: VTG Rail Logistics GmbH is acquiring a majority stake in the Slovakian railway undertaking (RU) Carbo Rail and will in future be responsible for strategic development and operational management of operations. "The cooperation with Carbo Rail is the ideal complement to the corridor strategy of our Retrack network," says Günther J. Ferk, Head of VTG Rail Logistics Europe. "Our aim is to offer customers throughout Europe on the most important routes integrated traction services and comprehensive forwarding solutions from a single source. In the future, a locomotive is to operate on a complete corridor without time-consuming switching at border crossings. Thus, we achieve qualitative and quantitative advantages". With this acquisition VTG is strengthening its presence in Central and Eastern Europe: Carbo Rail has operating licenses for Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

25 locos and qualified staff

Carbo Rail has 25 locomotives in operation to provide transport services for its customers - and in future also for VTG customers. In addition, Carbo Rail has qualified specialist staff: "We are very pleased to be working closely with the approximately 150 locomotive drivers, dispatchers and the management of Carbo Rail in the future," says Günther J. Ferk. "Together we can provide our customers with an even better service - simply by expanding the corridor". The signing has already taken place, the takeover is subject to the decision of the competent antitrust authorities.
