Chief Executive Officer

Alberto Nobis was born 1965 in Italy where he grew up and went to school. He completed his university studies in 1992 with a master’s degree in Business Administration and Management at the University of Bologna.

Alberto Nobis started his career in 1993 at Agos, a financial services company specialized in consumer credits owned by French Crédit Agricole, as financial advisor. He joint the global food processing company HJ Heinz in 1994 where he started a 10-year career. He started as a controller in Milan (1994-2000), followed by a finance manager role in Pittsburgh (2000-2003) and ultimately Vice President Finance in London (2003-2006).

In 2006, Alberto Nobis returned to Italy as the Chief Financial Officer and Admin Director of DHL Express. In 2008, he left Italy again for Brussels where he took the CFO Europe role to lead the design & execution of a restructuring program. In 2010, Alberto Nobis then advanced to Global CFO of DHL Express and became CEO Italy in 2013 (until 2019). From 2019 to 2023, he was CEO of DHL Express Europe before he joined VTG as new Chief Executive Officer on October 1, 2023.

Dr. Mani Herold, born on February 24, 1971, studied business administration at the University of Munich, where he completed his doctorate.

Dr. Mani Herold began his professional career in 1995 at Price Waterhouse, where he worked on business process redesign and ERP system implementation projects in Europe. He then spent almost 15 years in investment banking at Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch in London and Frankfurt, where he advised international clients in a wide range of industries on mergers, acquisitions and disposals as well as capital market transactions. From 2012 to 2016, Dr. Mani Herold was Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of an international business unit of E.ON. He then held Group CFO positions at several private equity-led companies from various industries, including the Pfleiderer Group, a leading manufacturer of high-quality engineered wood, and Cerdia International, a global producer of cellulose-based chemical products. Most recently, he was CFO of the Rodenstock Group, a leading global medical technology provider, where he drove the global transformation of the finance and IT organization.

Since April 1, 2025, Dr. Mani Herold serves as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the VTG Group and as a member of the Executive Board of VTG GmbH.

Chief People & Culture Officer

Kerstin Kamphaus was born in Damme, Lower Saxony, in 1972 and studied economics at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg and Towson State University in Baltimore, USA. After her degree in economics in Oldenburg, she began her career at Colgate-Palmolive GmbH in Hamburg in 1997.

Kerstin Kamphaus joins VTG from the Maersk Group, where she initially served as Chief People & Culture Officer for the Hamburg Süd company before assuming responsibility for the group’s strategic recruitment issues. Before moving to Maersk, she filled a variety of general HR leader positions – including a role in charge of enterprise-wide leadership development – at the Vattenfall Group from 2003 through 2020.

With effect from January 1, 2024, Kerstin Kamphaus fills the newly created role of Chief People & Culture Officer at VTG GmbH. Creating this new function and bundling all strategic and operational human resources matters across Europe will thus provide the necessary focus.

Chief Commercial Officer

Michael Eckelsberger has been with VTG since May 2025 and took on the role of Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) in September 2025. In this role, he is responsible for the further development and implementation of VTG's commercial strategy. His focus is on maintaining and expanding strategic customer relationships to promote profitable growth.

Previously, Michael Eckelsberger worked as a senior leader in sales and marketing in various industries (including DHL and Microsoft). He is based in Austria.

Chief Executive Officer Logistics Division

Dr. Martin Neese leads as CEO Logistics the Logistics Divison of VTG. The asset-light rail logistics business model of the Logistics Division supports the market-leading position of the leasing business and ensures and enhances our fleet utilization and provides to customers a differentiated, comprehensive logistics service offering across Europe.

Before this role, Martin Neese was initially CCO and joined VTG in 2024 from the global management consulting firm Kearney, where he advised VTG and other clients in the wider rail and transportation market across Europe and the Middle East.

Previously, Martin Neese held several executive positions at DP World and at Rhenus Group. His experience includes serving as CEO of Crossrail Group and Rhenus Freight Logistics and being part of the founding Managing Director team at Contargo, a leading European intermodal inland network. Earlier in his career, Neese worked with BCG and other consultancies after completing studies in physics and business administration.
